50 simple actions that spark joy

Quote "We're all born knowing how to play"

As a big proponent of living a life that sparks joy, I know that there are plenty of small things that you can do to brighten your day and bring playfulness and creativity closer to you. So the next time you're wondering, "what simple things can I do that spark joy in life?", this is a list to remind you. Print out a copy and keep it close for when inspiration is low. So, without further ado, here are 50 simple things that you can do to spark more joy in your life

  1. Start a new puzzle.
  2. Continue with a current puzzle.
  3. Complete a puzzle (yuhu)
  4. Take a bath with essential oils and soak for long.
  5. Get inspired in the kitchen and try a new recipe. I’d recommend this simple, rustic and crusty bread or a delicious Vegan Phad Thai (this recipe is actually in Swedish but should be easy to translate and if you do, it’s worth the effort).
  6. Make your bed each morning after waking up. Nothing is better than coming home to an inviting bed to dive into.
  7. Write a letter to a friend or family member and let some old school nostalgia seep over you.
  8. Light scented candles at night.
  9. Play solitaire by yourself. Pro tip, do it with real cards and avoid apps, they’re too addictive!
  10. Go for a run and get those endorphins going.
  11. Take note of something you’ve wanted to start or try and look up a class to do it (do it now!).
  12. Read a book under a cosy blanket.
  13. Start a gratitude journal and write down 3-5 things that you are grateful for each day. When things are looking down, you can browse it for positive inspiration.
  14. Volunteer your time to a cause that you care about.
  15. Call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while to catch up.
  16. Make your own bread on the weekend and enjoy an extensive breakfast with all your favourite spreads.. Or just butter, because what is better than freshly baked bread with butter melting on top?
  17. Put on relaxing music and stretch for 20 minutes. You’ll quickly notice your heartbeat slow down and a wave of calmness rushing over you.
  18. Brainstorm how your ideal life would look like, what would you be doing, where would you be doing it and with who? It’s never too late to start something new..
  19. Create a meditation routine in the morning or night time and get ready to rewire your brain (in the best possible way).
  20. Play a game of cards with friends.
  21. Write a mini-poem about your day.
  22. Explore your artistic side and set out to do a sketch every day for 30 days and see where it takes you.
  23. Put on your favourite playlist and dance like nobody's watching.
  24. Prepare a smoothie in the evening and enjoy it in the morning. Yummy treat and less time spent preparing in the morning, a win-win situation.
  25. Spend a little bit of time each evening to put away stuff from the day, you’ll enjoy waking up to clean surroundings and a fresh start.
  26. Cook up a storm on a Sunday to prepare your weekly dinners all in one go. You’ll be grateful later that week when you get home tired and hungry that you don’t have to cook.
  27. Take care of your favourite clothing and mend the hole in your favourite sweater that you’ve been meaning to fix for ages. It’s really easy with plenty of instructions online and it brings a lot of satisfaction.
  28. Go for a long and aimless walk for the sole purpose of observing your surroundings.
  29. Download a language app and spend ten minutes a day studying the language you’ve always wanted to learn.
  30. Have a board game night with friends.
  31. Create a cosy evening routine and introduce moon milk into your life.
  32. Take care of your plants at home and if you don’t have any, get some to take care of. It’s lots of fun, promise!
  33. Give honest compliments to your friends, family and strangers.
  34. Enjoy a fruit platter filled with your favourite fruit and berries.
  35. Put your phone down and disconnect from all blue screens for the day. Take the time to read that book, lay those puzzle pieces and drink that tea.
  36. Take the time to clear out your home. Sell and donate what you don’t need and feel more free at home.
  37. Watch a good movie or documentary.
  38. Take it easy tonight and get a good night's rest.
  39. Go on a local adventure in your neighbourhood. Maybe there’s a museum or cute coffee shop just waiting to be explored.
  40. Create an activity box and fill it with things to do when you’re lacking inspiration. You'll find an article in our journal on how to create one and ideas of what to put in it here!
  41. Write a letter to yourself in 5 or 10 years. It’s a fun experience writing one and an even better one opening it years later.

  43. Practice affirmations daily.
  44. Micro-meditate a few times a day, you’ll quickly notice the beautiful benefits.
  45. Create music playlist for different moods. A relaxing one for when you’re feeling stressed, a happy one for when everything is just right and a motivating one for when you need it.
  46. Stop procrastinating on that project that you want to start, just go for it.
  47. Sleep in on the weekend and enjoy a long brunch.
  48. Commit to doing one thing that brings you pleasure a day.
  49. Make your favourite dish for dinner and invite a person who means a lot to you over for dinner and a glass of wine.
  50. Take a nap. As simple as that.
